β-1,4-Galactosyltransferase 5 (B4GALT5) is a single-pass type II membrane protein that belongs to the glycosyltransferase 7 family. B4GALT5 includes a cytoplasmic domain (aa 1-14), a transmembrane segment (aa 15-35), and an extracellular region (aa36 - 388). B4GALT5 is ubiquitously expressed in many tissues and required for Manganese as cofactor. The B4GALT5 function is responsible for the synthesis of complex-type N-linked oligosaccharides in many glycoproteins as well as the carbohydrate moieties of glycolipids
